Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins First Title in Nearly 30 Months
19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the top ten and finally separating with former coach his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested competitive triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is his maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of 2023.
Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my both daughters together, so to get a championship is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on court had prompted commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
However the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced service.
The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged break points in the following set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to force a final set.
The opponent saved 4 early-game break points in a close third set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
